My 2 cents....
There appears to be 3 opportunities for growth here:
1- schmoozing is important. It is possible that having a better relationship with the hiring manager that they may have spent more time with your application. Always be social /networking.
2- translating your restaurant experience to bank speak. The lack of bank and compliance experience would have contributed. So how do you target the perceived weaknesses with your experiences.
3- get feedback from the hiring nanager on what was missing. This will confirm your beliefs or perhaps expose other areas for development
So the question is, where do you want to learn this? You can learn at this bank or you can try interviewing externally to practice these skills. Sometimes staying in the same company gives you the edge to really create and build and expand your network. I believe you can turn around most perceptions.
In any case, assumptions are being made which you need to validate.
Thank you for clarifying. I did misread into things.
And Yes! I know the struggle all to well. I've worked with many boys club managers and been overlooked and even penalized for smashing expectations..... It's hard. I think that's why I take the mindset of - what is there to learn and when there is nothing left to learn then I move on....
Always here if you wanna chat.
Recently, boss quit. Regional has had to talk and work with me since. Had me doing my work plus my previous bosses work. For two months. I applied for promotion, but my interview process was shady. No communication from HR at all. Or regional actually for 20 days. I could see a first and then second interview scheduled for a candidate. Knew they were on path to hiring this person. Asked my regional if I was just not getting an interview since no one reached out. He said oh yeah, I just told HR I would handle all internal candidates. Then, went to his office, sent emails off to HR and received a pre interview survey to fill out last minute. Fast forward, I did not get the promotion. Not surprisingly. But, now 2 months later they are sending in other financial center managers to take the FCM duties "off my plate". It's going to be about 2 months before she is trained. They took over schedules, and now, our paid holidays have became our "day off" and we now have to work a half day on weeks that we have a holiday. The regional told me that he would have never hired me with my experience. Just being transparent. He acts as if 8 bank employees are harder to manage than 45 restaurant employees. It's as if he looks down on my previous profession. New FCM has 10 years experience as a Walmart manager and 5 years as a branch manager for another bank. I have 10 years experience in restaurant management and 2 years assistant Center Manager. I just don't know what I should do. I feel under appreciated and that I won't get a break at this job because of the previous FCM. But yet, I want to continue to grow and learn in this career. What should my next move be?
I've never had a boss that I didn't get along with. The last 3 bosses that I had begged me to stay or at least stay on their payroll somehow. I feel that says alot alot my abilities and work ethic. So, to not give me a chance or take the time to know me is disheartening. Regional makes mention of me and previous FCM being at odds. And of course we were, I came from leadership and being in charge and being an example to being under this man that was finding every way to miss work and lie about it. And pointing fingers at everyone but himself. So, no, we were not best buddies. It's hard to watch someone be a poor leader and not be able to do anything about it. The scratch my back and I'll scratch yours mentality is so archaic. So is the ass kissing gets you further mentality.
