As a former paralegal, I’d say the pros and cons depend on your answer to the following questions:
Do you like your place enough to want to do work from there?
Do you have a distinct office space separate from your rest area?
Is your home internet as fast as the office internet?
Do you have peace and quiet at home during the day as you would at the office?
How bad is your commute?
How much control do you have over your own schedule?
How often do you have to work overtime?
Are you an extrovert or an introvert?
I personally hated working from home because I like having clear lines between when I should be working and when I should be relaxing. I felt like I was “on” at all times when working from home even outside of working hours.
Saving on gas and time to get to work was nice, but I didn’t like my place enough to want to be there all day.
The work was the work either way, though. You could do it from anywhere. Instead of walking into people’s offices I just picked up the phone.
I agree with this statement
I'm an in-house, exempt paralegal and, honestly, I don't have any cons to remote work. My company is fully remote with employees covering all US time zones and a CEO based in Europe. Working in an office would severely limit my ability to respond timely as I would definitely stop working when I leave the office. I definitely work harder and get more done but I don't mind because it also allows me to have a healthier work-life balance.
Along with asking yourself the questions that Litigation Paralegal 1 listed, you also have to consider the responsibilities of the position. If you've always worked in office, it will be a big adjustment but it can be a very positive and rewarding experience.
The con is the pay. They always underpay when it’s fully remote. It sux. Hybrid is not too bad though.
