Hello friends
We are hiring.....

Hi there, I’ve been told that Deloitte (London, UK) is going to make me an offer but haven’t heard back and it’s been over two weeks. The recruiter mentioned it would be around the “m2 grade”. Any idea what this pay range is? … I have 3 YOE working in NHS finance and have applied for a position in Risk Advisory, public sector. Curious what life at Deloitte is like? Does a work life balance exist?

A lot depends on the agency, team structure and project/client. When I became a VP I was promoted within the same agency (so I’d already been doing the work etc. & was seen as a leader by the folks who’d be reporting to me + had client support and good relationships). Here’s the truth and I’ve seen it dozens of times to validate this - The biggest job initially will be to win hearts/minds of the team who is working for you (both your direct team and cross functional teams you frequently work with) You need to become “one of them” quickly. Your work output is mostly through them, they have to want to follow you and trust you (especially as an outsider vs an internal promo). You’re no longer the rising AD getting points on the board for a promo..time to focus on being a leader and building other leaders. If you can get that right you can really have influence over the workflow and balance (because your team trusts you and you trust them). This is the thing I see ADs have the hardest time with when they get promoted to VP. You of course have to have the technical chops (& you’ll need to flex them a bit in your first few months to remind them why they hired you- help
the team and yourself by getting an early win), but the best VPs learn quickly how to leverage the people on their team to get work done vs always taking it on and doing it themselves. Read The First 90 Days & Dare to Lead. Good luck and congratulations on joining the VP ranks! You’ll kill it ✨
As someone who’s shopping around for this exact position, I really appreciate the thoughtful advice. Hope this bowl can continue to empower each other in similar ways.
Well your work/life balance may be determined by how much support you have under you. But most importantly, please remember to play the game. By that I mean you are now an officer, so having advocates is incredibly important. They will help you navigate, and keep you from being the target as POC in charge, and cope with the politics!
Yes, I definitely believe I’ll be playing the game a bit more, thank you.
Congratulations!!! It gets more challenging as it should. The leadership role will and should tip the scale more to work than life. Be careful what you ask for. Enjoy.
