That would depend on the role and its responsibilities and how good the online training actually is. If you're talking about operating machinery, sure, there has to be some training that goes beyond a screen. If you're promoting someone in a bank, for instance, and they're competent in their current role, online training for a new role may be sufficient. Obviously, people become more adept with real world experience, but in some cases online training can get them up and running.

Online training has prepared me for exactly one thing: passing the quiz at the end of online training. Real work? Not even close. You always learn more on the job than you do through courses.

My company has a training team for each department. The more entry level the more hands on. There are only concepts but 90% of it is hands on.
