I found it to be maybe 60% of the time they believe they are but are not as much of an ally in practice. Many people are more "collectors" than ally if that makes sense.
Elizabeth Taylor?
So popular polls have asked this question - including me on the confession bowl… and around 70% of people are accepting and friendly to gay people. 30-40% inwardly despise gay people, despite how they act outwardly.

Depends what country your talking about

Ok what’s your guess
What does that mean? As in ally?
Yes I would say so.
What do you mean by "friendly"? I've found that 99% of people are tolerant and accepting, and I can be respectful that around 1/3 of them just don't want it constantly brought up and from their perspective, shoved down their throats.
I think that's a bit dramatic.....
Like half the time for me. And they don't always remain that way
I live in a much safer bluer area now and when i can im more selective of the places i choose to work. Pretty much every place here will slap on the "LGBT friendly" even if the work culture is openly not
I found out that a friend, who I thought was quite supportive, had some surprising views during our discussion about politics.
Although she voted for Kamala, she expressed that the Democrats were to blame for our loss, she gave me some examples like the use of "they" pronouns, concerns about trans in women’s restrooms, and the Pride events while straight people don’t have a similar celebration.
I was shocked, especially since she’s an open-minded, progressive black woman from the Bronx. It made me realize that even those who seem forward-thinking can hold contradictory views.

This is the truth. The ads they were running nationwide about kids having surgeries likely did us in. I have similar views as your friend. As a gay cis man now, I had a period of being extremely effeminate in the mid 80s around 4-8years old, and would have gladly been a girl had the option been available then. Would have loved having a female body. Didn’t feel like I should be a boy. I’m so glad it wasn’t how things were done then. Was so glad I got to go through puberty bc that’s when I enjoyed being a boy, and now a man. This is just my personal experience though, not projecting this on anyone else’s and what not. I like who I am now, and am proud to be a gay cis man. Adults should do as they wish, or if a child hits puberty and it isn’t working out maybe some meds are the answer - puberty blockers or something else. But I agree with most of the country on this issue.
In my experience it is a non-issue here in NYC for the most part.
