No matter what anyone says, if it bothers you it bothers you. It's your life so you have no reason to settle because you question if a red flag is immature or not.
Hi,
I’m the Fox News reporter, mostly here to share more about my role. Feel free to ask me anything.
I don’t work for the opinion side of the channel. My stories get blasted out to every Fox station in the country (the local ones) and my work is published on the website. If you have a Fox station in your city, I contribute to the work that goes on air.
If I quit my role, I will be blacklisted from more than 200 news stations in the country, because of my contract (and I’m already blacklisted from more than 150). I am under contract and will be heavily fined if I quit my role. This severely limits any sort of job I can get in the industry if I were to leave.
I’m covering weather and crime stories, two things I love. I don’t touch politics or political stories. I have 3 months left in my role. Never could have I imagined people would hate me for the company I work for, and completely strike off everything else about me.
I have made this point multiple times to many people who question my employer. Take a good look at the companies and stores you shop at and look at the politicians they donate to. Stop shopping there if you’re going to judge me for my role. Is this fair?
I’m proud to be gay and I’m proud to be a good journalist who has always remained objective in my work. My job is not who I am and the fact I’m being treated as such, isn’t fair.

Fox guy, you're right that it isn't fair to treat someone just as a job while ignoring their other characteristics. You're also right that plenty of other people work for companies with their own skeletons. That said, to what extent, if any, do you believe that someone's job choices reflect poorly on the person? I'd like to hear your thoughts on the middle ground, if any, between not dating someone due to their job versus the person just paying their bills.
I'm way too involved in the community and politically to ever consider dating someone who sets their values (or worse, has none) aside for $, because it won't be the last time they're willing to.

^ I also won’t support travel + leisure magazine anymore because the recent issue heavily promotes saudi arabia 🤮 adding them to the list along with chic and the others

This is immature. Tell him to @ me tho.

SC1 - yes that’s correct.
What is their role at Fox? Are you treating him the way you want to be treated?
Where do you work OP? Has your firm ever worked for a questionable client (tobacco, alcohol, oil, gas, snacks, soda, defense, some governments, some government agencies, etc)? How would you respond if someone told you "you work at xxx? They helped increase sales of (insert questionable product here). Our date is cancelled"?
If your response would be "yeah, my company has contributed to (something questionable), but I personally didn't work on that, so can we still date" then you should treat the other guy the same way.
Thank you! Money is not everything and some things are not worth your soul!

There’s a big difference between the Fox News news division and the opinion division. But people don’t seem to know the difference between news and opinion anymore.
People are forever getting those confused and make big statements about how the pundits are biased and not reporting the news. News flash! They’re supposed to be commenting and giving their opinion. They’re NOT the news division.
Does your person work in the news division or the opinion division?
Fox News was created to be a propaganda arm of the Republican party. That is what Roger ailes created at for and it has served that purpose since its inception. Yes, they have good news stories sometimes but that does not divorce them from the fact that Ticker Carlkson is on the air spreading fear, racism, and transphobia every night.
I know really amazing people who are hardcore Republicans. Also some other people may think that your job is evil by making corporations more profitable while taking away people’s jobs. I don’t think where they work defines who they are, unless they’re in a cult

It depends. My friend’s sister works for Fox News, but she works on like local news stuff, not the really controversial talking heads stuff (which would mostly be limited to DC I think).

I agree. In today’s climate, it’s too much of a values clash for me. To be dating someone who works at a propaganda machine that is constantly attempting to thwart democracy, and ensure that the final solution comes to pass: a totalitarian fascist theocracy.

^ i don’t necessarily disagree with you. I used vote on the candidate rather than party lines - and have voted GOP in the past. Now, however, I just can’t do it. I don’t buy into propaganda on either side, and avoid news. But, anyone who is okay still
aligning themselves with the GOP is morally defective in my opinion, based up
everything that has transpired since 2016. And yesterday my new view on this is extreme…
I mean they’re pushing so much anti-LGBT propaganda. Agree if it isn’t a local Fox News station idk if I could do it. Values should align always. Assuming this is NYC, there’s so many other places to get a job in news.

As someone who worked for another big evil (Exxon), if he doesn’t see the issues for the company he works for, that’s a major red flag. If he has some level of remorse but wants to build income until he has an exit strategy, I think it’s worthwhile to give him a shot.

Yes! I moved to consulting a year and a half ago, moved cities, and never been happier since. Great to work for a company that actually rewards you for good work rather than trying to put you down!
Are you so sensitive that you can’t date someone who works at a news station?
Definitely not Fox 🫤
When did you move to the city? If you just move there shouldn’t you explore and see what’s out there before getting mail down?
The Fox News empire is huge and thought-speak is pumped out daily to all affiliates. It is not “separate” or “disconnected” - it’s all a part of the same business. Saying you only work on x or y subject, or only local news, doesn’t excuse you. You sound like you’re “just following orders”. Those contracts reek of crazy with the black listings and fines. Does that sound even functional to you? Every worker contributes to the bottom line of a company that puts out hate propaganda about our community is responsible. You don’t get a pass, you do not collect $200, you go straight to red flag jail. Your values are as flexible as a polyamorous relationship, without the ethics.
You can find ethical companies to work for. Blaming contacts or saying it’s just a job is such a gross understatement of the collusion and support you’re giving to one of the most toxic companies to our community. Money isn’t worth it, and I know Fox pays crappy to begin with.

Not all gay people agree with you. Keep that in mind. We’re not a monolith. My Latino boyfriend and I curl up with wine and watch Tucker Carlson some evenings.
It's a yellow flag to me. It sort of depends on his motives for taking the job and his political views/leanings. When John Stewart/Colbert would go on O'Reily you could hear the fox crew busting a gut over their jokes so at least then you would know that the crew weren't fundies. I would hope that they had a game plan to leave however.
Fox News is a business at the end of the day. One should be able to see below the surface and get to know the person. Do you really think everybody at Fox News have the same rhetoric? At the end of the day we all are people who have to pay bills, taxes etc.
That’s exactly what I said SM1. Good job!

OP—What are you talking about? You obliviously don’t like capitalism, and seem to not like free speech either. Fox News (like CNN or MSNBC) can say whatever it wants. And if I hear one more comment about “our democracy” I’ll vomit. This isn’t a democracy; it is a constitutional federal republic.
Pro
You’re missing the point of states versus the federal government. We did fight a war over that, yes, and the north won and we have the reconstruction amendments. But you’re still writing as if this were, say, France, as opposed to union of what are essentially different sovereign entities.
I have a negative bias against people who work for Fox News but mostly is because I had a miserable experience when I was a consultant helping Disney through their acquisition of 21 Century Fox. To this day, the nastiest people I’ve ever interacted with in a professional setting. Granted that was the finance/acct/ops and not reporters/journalists
That aside, I think you shouldn’t be ashamed of what your partner does for a living. If it’s weird for you to introduce this guy to your friends it’s going to be tough having a serious relationship with him. Also, if you date this guy, he will likely have many Fox News friends so you’ll likely start growing a circle of “Fox news” people. If you can get past those 2 things then I’d say try things out with him otherwise you’re probably not a good match and you shouldn’t waste his time or yours.
We are all beautiful human beings, no matter what. People are just making a living
