My company also asks this at year end usually but we’re compensated someway, either comp off or some extra pay and that is also a choice and team consensus.
Easiest thing for you to do is just comply and work, coz battles are not worth it and will not result in anything helpful, only make things worse.
Next easiest thing for you is to punch in and don’t work.. everyone including managers will be in holiday mood anyways.. this is not recommended ethically but it works..
If you really wanna fight reply to email saying you’re not obligated to work and you will not work unless you’re compensated, maybe ask a feasible compensation like compensatory off on other day? If possible gather some folks in your team to respond in similar way.. or saying that they have some genuine reason to not work on those days.. your company will probably back off..
If you’re looking for some way to accept this arrangement and get some pay out of it it’s not gonna happen.. let that thought go..
