I am a paralegal interested in making the jump from litigation to Worker's Compensation. I don't have recent experience in WC but recall it was a lot of form work. Any Worker's Compensation experts here that can offer an opinion (is it a heavy lift) and run me thru some of your daily activities? I am in New Jersey. Thanks!

I’m in GA, and know from experience, it’s a lot of work. Unless it’s a decent salary with perks, I wouldn’t switch.

Im in GA also, Im curious what you would consider a decent salary. I am a personal injury paralegal but I also do workers comp too.

It’s busy work but not HARD work. Also - it really depends on whether you’ll be doing petitioner or respondent. Petitioner work is poop - you’re basically babysitting grown ass people to make sure they go to doctors and the such. Respondent work is less mental but nonetheless… busy. Very repetitive work.

Coming from some one who has spent the majority of my career in personal injury litigation with a couple of years in WC: it’s different, and whether you like it will depend on what you’re looking for in a job. WC is form driven, repetitive work at an incredibly high volume. The case turnover pace is much quicker compared to litigation. Because of the speed and volume, I found the quality of work tends to suffer. As the others mentioned, it is not hard work but I wouldn’t categorize it as necessarily exciting work, either. In WC defense I spent a lot of time following up with carriers and employers for information and updated records. Sending and following up on subpoenas. Drafting forms for filing and following up with the commission about the same. Most cases settled without a formal hearing and I person never had a case go to trial.

Hi Fishes,

I have given my interview in HCL and cleared 1 TP, 1 hcl manager & Client TP and Client Manager rounds .
In initial screening HR told the generic statement of 30-40% and I have given my ask as 50% minimum. After clearing the rounds I heard from the project team that Client has given great feedback and wanted to take me in .
What is the % I can ask in HR Discussion and will they reject in HR if I ask more now .
I have 9.5 years total experience and role is Storage Architect.
Thanks

Hi everyone. Is it typical for the attorney to take credit for the work a paralegal does? An example: I gave some ideas about deposition questions and some observations I made (I was asked about giving suggestions) regarding a witness and the attorney mentioned that he’s the one that had these great questions/observations. Zero credit or thank you for the work I did.
