Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

You can absolutely try! If you feel like there's another title that would more adequately reflect what you really do, then you should request it. But I'll be honest, I often get a little bit creative with what I put on my resume. I'm not sure anybody actually cares what the official title was, at the end of the day.

That’s a good point. I think I’ll keep my old title because it seems more known.
I don't really care about titles, so I always tell people, if you’ve actually done the work and handled the responsibilities of a certain role, it’s totally fair to update your title to something more industry-recognized, especially on your resume or LinkedIn I just need to know you know what you are doing and if this fits into the role I am hiring for. Have you ever heard about changing title like that? You should do it.

FHR Manager 1 - General Flunky is interesting lol. I’m glad you said that though because I’ve been too focused on title. I think because it helps direct me on which jobs I might be considered for.
You can be a VP and have 5 people in your org. Or you can also be a Director with 100 people.
Title doesn’t matter.

Thanks. I used it to help me identify what jobs I should be looking for. But you’re right. There’s much more to it.

Hmmm that’s definitely a dilemma. Could you maybe include words that speak to what your old title was in your job description on your resume to help AWS / recruiters see the overlap?

Yeah.. I’m thinking about just keeping my old title in my resume unless I figure out a better one that explains what I do.
Titles do matter and I always say this. You can definitely negotiate this when you get an offer. It is important because that is what you have to put on your resume.
