El mirasol! Food is good, they have drinks, ambiance is good and it’s not cheap nor super expensive. You’re paying about 12-18 each plate. I prefer the Alon location as it’s bigger.
Southerleigh. Good for any meal, not crazy expensive, and you can walk around the Pearl afterwards. I take everyone that visits and it’s always a hit.
I have heard SUCH good things about this place. Definitely adding it to my list. Thank you fo rsharing.
Less business and more for visiting family: pizza Italia on the north side, Chris Madrid's, pluckers, pollos asados
It’s been years since I’ve been back, but I do miss it. I hope they’re doing well!
The Dough location in hemisfair is wonderful. Good food and a lovely area to eat outside.
It used to be Aldaco’s for the view and chill vibe but the food has been meh lately.
It depends on the person, really. But I like taking people for things they can’t get elsewhere, or they can’t get as good elsewhere as they can here. A sack of breakfast tacos close to home, the molacajete at la gloria, any place with agua frescas or paletas in abundance, la panaderia.
& Box Street Social is a fun place for brunch and the food is great.
Bar Loretta, best quality daughter
Daughter?!?!??! Was that a typo lOL.
Though it's not a restaurant, my wife and I take our friends and family to Laika Cheesecake & Espresso on Broadway for dessert after spending time around the museum district.
Laika is fantastic!
Depends what they’re here for.
- Mi Tierra for those who wanted to “experience the culture”. Decent food and it was pretty lively.
-Whataburger. A Texas classic.
-Buccees. I used to send my friends the nuggets from there so when they visit, we have to stop by. They have brisket sandwiches and other bbq there too. And lots of merchandise. More towards New Braunfels though.
-Dicks Last Resort. My military buddies thought this place was amusing lol.
-Tower of Americas. It’s expensive but people like the view.
I haven’t been to ToA in a long while. I agree the food wasn’t the best but people seemed to like the view of the city from the top of the tower.
As far as Mi Tierra goes you’ll notice I put quotes around “experience the culture”. Taking someone to Tacos El Rey or Patty’s Taco House would have better food but it isn’t as lively or touristy.
Domingo is an open-air restaurant and is really cool. It’s located on the riverwalk if you’re wanting something there & the food is so good! Battalion is also really cool since it’s in an old fire station and the Italian food is really good, but a little pricey.
La Fonda on Maine. Good Mexican food
Carnitas Lonja on the Southside. Great food, laid back atmosphere, and a lesser-known gem that the average visitor wouldn't know about.
Whenever my sister and brother and law are in town we go to Paloma Blanca.
Pollos Asados for sure. Chicken and corn tortilla.
