Sounds like a subconscious desire on his part not to be upstaged, and your actions make him question his own drive in a way that makes him feel uncomfortable - even if he ultimately supports your success. Cream rises to the top girl. Don't make yourself smaller or limit your accomplishments to make other people comfortable. Ever.
You will never be happy within yourself if you're masking your own power, personality, and abilities. It sounds like you are doing amazing. Keep going. ⭐️

Unless the guy has some potential career impact, explaining yourself to others is fruitless.
I do say that you do need to have an answer for this in an elevator speech kind of way. This helps with networking, interviewing and general goal setting.
Make sure those titles also include the right pay attached to it. You are going to see a huge wave of titles being thrown around during a recession but the pay might not match what the going rates are.
Remember, hard workers are rewarded with more work. People who work well, network and have a smart goal/plan for the next 5 years actually make their dreams come true.
You need to move to the concept of quantifying what success looks like and how to prove with numbers why you should move forward in the company or find something better.

There is no shame for being paid too much. Keep going for the pay. Too many females don’t negotiate or they negate that the pay should match the title.
If climbing is what you want for titles - make sure the pay follows as well.
One of the folks on this thread mentioned a counselor/coach. I think that might be beneficial for you as you are working this hard. It’s something I started too late and if you can swing it financially- do it.
I had a good discussion with my shrink about this, after digging into why I cared about title. I realized that it was because I wanted to be the female leader role model that I never had coming up in my career, especially in technology. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to climb the ladder, especially for women- we need more representation.
You have no need to defend yourself at all. Work hard and get what you deserve.
