Only if you pet the owner first

Before petting me you need to ask my wife, if she’s there.
Ask the owner if it's cool
No. If you don’t want your dog pet or socialized, don’t go to the dog park.

Dog park no. On leash yes. My dog goes to get petted and run laps. He doesn’t care about other dogs.
I don’t think so if the dog walks up to you. The dog is probably used to attention from doing that.
Absolutely not. My dog is shy and will run if someone tries to pet him. If he was reactive and posed a risk I would not take him.
It depends. If the dog is jumping on you in a friendly way, you have every right to pet the dog since the dog illegally got up in your space

In a dog park, absolutely. Walking on the street or a path or something, no.
Dog parks are for dogs to socialize. If you don’t want to get jumped or slobbered on by friendly dogs, don’t go to the dog park.
I don’t think that’s what OP was asking. Obviously don’t go to a dog park if you don’t like dogs.
If you’re confident in your abilities to evaluate dogs, then yeah go ahead and pay a dog off leash at the dog park. If not, I sure as shit wouldn’t, there are a hell of a lot of aggressive dogs out there and plenty of reckless owners who don’t give a shit if their dog mauls someone.
I say this as a person who has had 5 dogs ranging from 10 pounds to 100 and would generally pat dogs at a dog park. But then again I’ve spent my entire life around dogs of all different types and have a pretty good sense of how they’ll react.

Nah its great all around - makes them more comfortable to strangers, makes your dog less possessive and it gives ya the warm and fuzzies
The only line id say is not picking them up to pet them for smaller dogs, someone did that to mine once, not a fan
Thanks for the tip!
Thanks. I’m new to dog park etiquette.

Mine is the one I am trying to not crawl up on the bench with you.
What business does this have being in the Accounting bowl? How dare you!
Always check with owner

Why would you take your dog to a dog park, let them run around off leash with 30-40 other dogs and people, then get mad when someone pets them? I don’t even know who half the owners of the dogs are, I’m not going to run around to every person and say “can I pet your dog? Can I pet your dog?”
Check with the owner. Can remember early in covid where this was taboo, even at a dog park.
Dog park, sure. Outside of a dog park, absolutely no. Best thing one can do outside a dog park for other people's dogs is ignore them - if the dog is nervous, will make them more comfortable. If the dog loves people, it shows them no one cares they exist.
I bring my dog in public everywhere I'm allowed, and it drives me nuts when people walk up and start letting him without asking. He LOVES people, absolutely dashes his self control on learning not everyone cares he exists when every 5th person acts like they haven't met a happy dog before.
