My friend shared that his company has started giving company shares with a locking period to employees who receive the best ratings. I think this is a great move because when employees own a part of the company, they feel more valued and secure. Do you think offering shares motivates employees more and builds long-term commitment?

I think it does in theory, but the reality is a little bit different. Even when you feel like the success of the company will directly benefit you, it's hard to hold onto that motivation for long. Especially when it benefits the C-suite WAY more.

Totally agree with you

I've worked at places that offered similar. It didn't make me feel any more connected to the company, but it did make me think twice about leaving before it vested. Not exactly the same thing as motivation, but for the company's purposes, I suppose it worked out the same.

100 % i agree with you

For me it makes me want to stay until the stocks vest. Our stocks bonus is given upon management’s discretion and isn’t guaranteed so it does make me work a bit harder

Its another way of think am also agree with you

Depends on vesting and how much it would actually be worth

I am a registered sales assistant which means I have my series 7. I also have the 63 and my Life & Health license. I was a financial advisor but the role is commission only so I decided to take a role as an assistant for some time to learn etc. I really like my role, but I only make 32k a year and after taxes I only take home about 25k. I have a gut feeling that I’m not being paid market value but it’s tough to find comparable salaries. Do you think $15.38/hr is a fair wage in this case?

Curious what’s a fair salary in MA? Was just told that there is likely not going to be a chance for a raise during my upcoming performance review due to my salary already being “above average for the industry” based on my employer’s questionable research. I’ve been with the company 8.5 years & am the only one in my role, which they can’t operate without. I execute tasks from two investment advisors and two financial planners - they make the decisions of what should happen & I make it happen.

Currently a Wealth Advisor for Citi but I honestly hate it here with a passion it’s the worst company I’ve ever worked for in my life and I’ve been in Wealth Management in the banking channel for over a decade. Series 7, Series 63, Life, CFP, ChFC, and soon to have my MBA with a focus in Mergers & Acquisitions. I’m look to enter another area of Finance at this point instead of starting over somewhere else from scratch, but not sure what direction to go. Interested in Investment Banking or M&A.
