I would recommend a materials distribution manager for an industrial equipment manufacturer, I think it will give you more opportunities in the future since in the position you have to handle the contact with other people.
Thanks! Great insight! Are you referring to cross-functional teamwork?
It's difficult to say without knowing more about the companies. Generally speaking, working in a warehouse for a beverage company would be less prestigious than working in material distribution for an industrial equipment manufacturer. If this is something you value, then you may want to go this route.
Thank you! I feel the same but want to get the opinion of other professionals as the industrial equipment manufacturer offer would require a relocation where the other wouldn’t. Not worried about relocating if it’s the better choice long term. Appreciate the feedback!
The latter position might be more specialized and require more technical knowledge, so it's important to consider your strengths and interests before making a decision. Is it something that you feel you will not only manage but succeed at? If you want to be in it for the long-run, you have to think about EVERYTHING the job entails.
I appreciate that feedback and it’s definitely something to think about. I am currently a material analyst for an automotive supplier so this is right within the same setting as I am currently in and work with conveyance daily at work. This gives me more to think about. Thanks!
It's likely that the skills you develop in either position would be transferable to other industries, so it ultimately comes down to what you see as the most promising path for your career. For now, I'd say go with the best option in terms of salary, schedule, location, etc., and then in a couple years you'll be a more rounded professional!
Thanks for the feedback. I have prior experience with both industries/positions. Just wanting to make the best decision with this to position myself down the road for future opportunities.
Warehouse work, is often seen as less valuable or less prestigious, even though the role is a vital part of supply chain. So if you're hoping to get better future prospects I would recommned the second offer
Thank you, WM1. The offer is on the higher end of what I see for a warehouse manager, but my feeling is that the materials distribution manager position will open up more opportunities down the road. Just want to gather opinions from other professionals to confirm my feelings.
