It's a constant concern, and I'm sure it is for everyone in education. We participate in safety drills, and our school has security measures in place. But it's not just about drills; it's about building strong relationships with students, creating a positive school climate, and addressing any potential warning signs.
I don’t actively think about school shooters daily or anything like that, but I think all teachers are acutely aware of the possibility at all times.
I know my escape routes and I have plans for many different scenarios. Some have been practiced with my students as well.
I feel like I’ve done my part to promote a safe classroom, and I will continue to train and practice vigilance. I just wish politicians would do their jobs and start finding ways to reduce the availability and amount of guns that exist in our society. All evidence points to a simple equation- less guns equals less killings with guns. There’s just no way around simple facts.
NY that mentality worked in Canada and Australia so explain?
Would it make you feel better if you were armed at school? If not, what would be your concern for doing that.
I teach in a classroom that has no real escape routes. Yes, I would feel better if I had a real and effective means of protecting the children entrusted to me.
Yess I’m scared daily they need to put in metal detectors and keep armed cops in every school in America & armed security guards I believe teachers should have the right to bear arms they took this outta of most schools evening if it’s daycares, pre school and all grades 1-12 grammar school and high school
Well it will help it helped us to have safer schools growning up in the 80s 90s very early 2000s !(I believe in self defense) and it will slow down the shooters it will make some change America didn’t learn from 1st shooting on the east coast Columbine

Not disagreeing with you but some people call it profiling when your proactive. In most cities we know for the most part the
The time range
Community
The streets
Often the address
The gender
The age range
Much about the victims
etc.
Where violent crime will happen
Interestingly the people as a whole in these communities want more prevention.
Interestingly people of different, safer,
neighborhoods want less policing in the neighborhoods where others suffer from higher crime rates.
I think about this topic constantly because I offer PD to school staff that can help them get ahead of these kinds of tragedies. Being able to recognize the warning signs of a growing threat can stop a tragedy before it ever happens. Being proactive is paramount in school safety.
Early retirement. Saved up with an individual investment acct and a ROTH and I’m cashing out.
I also go to work with a bullet proof back pack

Congratulations! 🎊🎈
I’m sorry to hear that. May God’s presence fill your heart and those who affected by this tragedy. May we return to the Lord as a nation. Shalom

It’s just becoming more normalized and so much more prevalent, and gets worse every single year. What saddens me is the wide ranging impact of trauma, not only on the victims and their families but for the wider community at large. In fact, research shows that these mass shootings lead to a higher rates of depression and anxiety, a higher risk for suicide especially among young people, and significant decline in the community’s sense of well-being. One study found a higher incidence of infants born prematurely, or with low birth weight in communities where a mass shooting had occurred. That’s powerful

There’s is no reason? Tell that to the baby born at 3 lbs.
It’s science - it’s changes in the brain/like changes in neurons; neurochemical changes, changes in neural pathways, etc etc etc: and these are things that we have no control over.

I hope y’all work in districts that mandate behavioral threat assessments. If it wasn’t t for that kind of assessment last year, we would never had know an 8th grader had a loaded gun in his backpack in his locker until it went off. He told the psych and social worker that he was planning to kill himself at lunch, he was very nonchalant. Things obviously kicked into gear- yep loaded gun that he was going to use to kill himself. I am grateful to our district for mandating these types of assessments. Catching a perpetrator prior to a shooting might be our ONLY bet. We’re not going to shoot our way out of this, so we have to smarts our way out of it, imo
Much, much, much … less than going down town
