My wife had a miscarriage after about 6 weeks with a fresh transfer. Genetic testing is pending.
We had a failed IUI and after 2 rounds of IVF we only have one genetically sound embryo frozen. Losing hope.
Did you do genetic testing?
Chief
I had 2 miscarriages and 3 chemicals. Now most likely going through a 4th chemical. No answers.
I’m so sorry AP1. Not knowing is the worst.
I miscarried at 14 weeks with a PGT-normal (confirmed normal/no karyotype issues by fetal tissue test). This was following a VERY conservative first trimester of pregnancy (due to fear of miscarriage!). They ran a few blood tests and didn’t see anything off, and basically told me it was just really bad luck, and ‘these things happen’. After a brutal and devastating IVF journey… bad luck is not a sufficient or satisfying diagnosis. Next time, if we get a next time, I’m going to ask for an antibiotic before the transfer, more regular blood pressure and hormone level screenings, and absolutely will work with a high-risk OB.
PM1 - I was just very cautious about diet (not a drop of alcohol or caffeine, rigorously tracked nutrients); exercise (used to do a lot of Pilates and HIIT, and moved to only walking and yoga); got 8 hours of sleep and took time off to manage stress; made sure to thoroughly wash food before eating; avoided gardening; etc. Not all of these are even correlated with miscarriage reduction but I really wanted to not feel like I could blame myself if something went wrong. And, to be fair, I don’t - I really did everything the old school textbook way.
Was weaned off meds in week 11 and as of week 13 all hormones looked great (OB told me I was a ‘picture-perfect pregnancy’ after a 14 week anatomy scan, right before there was no heartbeat 2 days later). We are also dealing with unexplained infertility and a ‘bad luck’ IVF cycle, so we don’t have any other diagnoses to work off of.
I know we may not ever get an answer and I’ve made peace with the unknowns about that pregnancy and the loss of that baby, but I am not willing to put myself, my body, or my relationship through that again if there is anything we can learn or do differently next time. So, EY2, I am willing to explore speculative medicine, and that is an active choice I am making (while weighing all research and medical guidance carefully).
