Just turned 30. Have $205k between my IRA/401K. Have $70k in a HYSA for my emergency fund and another $130K in a different HYSA to be used for a down payment as my wife and I are planning to buy soon. I feel I’m slightly behind my peers but it’s all relative
Your feelings about your personal finances are largely psychological (See Ramit Sethi). Seeking out external validation will not be helpful, even with context, which is rarely provided. Differences in scholarships for undergrad/grad school, family money/gifts/inheritances, fields, lifestyle variances, home ownership location and timing, stock investment timing, etc. are all going to lead to wildly different result that are unlikely to be insightful.
Look at Accenture 1. They're boasting about their 2bd/2ba penthouse condo in the south loop at 27. You don't know if they put 3%/5%/10%/20%+ down. You don't know if they're now house poor. Despite the description, you also don't even know if it's a nice condo.
Look at Google 1. They have $405k at 30 and feel "behind" when they are in the top 10% of 30 year olds by net worth. Reading that, you're definitely not going to feel better if you think you're going to have a net worth of $200k at 30, even though that would still put you in the top 25% of 30 year olds (a great result).
You should be looking at how much you make, how you are contributing to retirement (and what sort of retirement you want to have), how much you are saving for your goals (and when you want to accomplish those goals), and how much you are spending and decide whether you need to make adjustments.
