My manager got me on a call earlier to tell me that an arrow was off when viewed at 300%. I'm starting to think consulting is not for me.

Shitty managers happen OP but beautiful thing about consulting is that if you really dislike someone you can make sure you never work with them again...

like

Ask the partene or SM if they are happy with the deck. Tell them you wanted to make sure because so and so got you on a call about an arrow being misaligned. Act like you think this is a little odd, but you're a team player and you want to do well. You really care, etc. They're response will be the same as here. WTF.

Sorry your arrow game so weak

like

It is possible he could tell it was misaligned but you needed to go to 300% to see it yourself. Screen sizes and such can all make a difference and PowerPoint behaves strangely sometimes. Every manager and SM I've worked with have this attention to detail. Learn what they care about and look for, you'll adjust. It's uncomfortable but it passes. Yes, formatting is part of the job.

like

Honestly, I would notice an arrow out of place without having to zoom in. I have an aesthetic eye that notices that kind of detail. That being said, when I think of it from the client's perspective, I think they would prefer his $ spent on something that adds more value/insight. Personally, as a manager, I'd fix the issue and move on - no need to call someone out on it.

like

Isn't QTP for ACN peeps only? We have something similar called Deloitte tools and Deloitte gallery.

like

Or Creative service, your time is for the content, formatting shouldn't be your worry

like

I've never really had good attention to detail but I figured out ways to deal with it often involving others checking certain things in my work. I make up for it in other ways and overall, it hasn't been a problem. Getting someone on the phone about an arrow at 300 percent is pretty twisted.

like

EY3 - I actually had two other people look over my deck and none of them noticed it either.

like

Director 1 - thank you! I usually don't let stuff like this brother me, but damn it's an arrow. I honestly doubt the client would have noticed or even cared. The content was fine and honestly that's all I care about.

like

I'm actually watching videos on the auto align feature just so I can avoid this in the future.

like

Well the arrow did look off

like

It's petty but sometimes it has to be that way. I'd be very leery of a consultant not familiar with aligns in PP.

like

Tell her the right software is CAD

like

After an experience like that, I became an expert using the alignment functionality. Saved me pulling my hair out when an SM would provide such useless feedback

like

Also, OP, creative services can do rush jobs but you have to have a charge code and their work product is hit or miss.

like

I'm with D3. Op I know it can be tough. I'm a stickler for details too and those things would bother me. I would call out things that I can fix myself, but manager must've called you in so you can learn from it and be more conscious of those things in the future. Zooming it in 300% might've just been to point it out.

like

I really like EY3s approach. Probably another easy way to respond in the future: " Sorry about the mistake, what's an easy, quick way to make sure it's not misaligned next time?"

like

I have a client who can tell if the colors are off brand by 1 change in red green or blue. She also has a favorite grey, a preferred line dash, bullet point spacing etc. I know it seems crazy but people won't take your analysis seriously if the presentation isn't perfect.

like

P3 - that's not normal. Your client sounds like an asshole with no life.

like

This says your wasting time and don't know PowerPoint alignment. Find a new job

I have a degree in horticulture with lab experience.

Or "Maybe in 6 months!"

Should one add their personal technology that are currently used for remote work on their resume? Seems most companies will provide the hardware and software needed. However, it’s unclear if the employer will provide this through Teamviewer/VPN connection or will send an actual computer.
