Uhhh Manager has some issues. I'd be sure to do some skip level convos and casually bring up situation to seek "counsel about difficult situations". This is ridiculous, unless manager had other real issues with your performance.
Ask the partene or SM if they are happy with the deck. Tell them you wanted to make sure because so and so got you on a call about an arrow being misaligned. Act like you think this is a little odd, but you're a team player and you want to do well. You really care, etc. They're response will be the same as here. WTF.
I'm sorry.... why the fk is this a trendy post?
@OP your manager clearly is not Matt enough and wasting his or her time too. The fastest way to make consistency and alignment is right click-> size and position.
Smart, not matt:(
EY2 - I'm pretty technical so working on powerpoints is not my strong suit, but I try. When stuff like this happens it really makes me want to leave the firm.
OP I agree it's knit picking. Not everyone at our firm is like that. My boss asked me to make many decks (technical) and I never have to worry about proof reading or style. Because our firm has creative service for a reason. They turn around pretty fast and they are good at what they do.
CS can take a few days. Faster if you know someone or have some juice.
First you need to let your sr mgr or ppedd know what you are not expert ppt stylist, either they are good with what you can create or they need to give charge code for a CSG request. Your time and technical skills spent on formatting is a waste. Second, my guts tell me the ppt you made dose't need that leave of cosmetics. Best scenarios is they agree as is is enough, you can always go miles beyond but that might not make sense regards to cost&benefit. Third, if you get the charge code, request a CSGin BSC, proof reading takes 2 business days in my experience, formatting depends on whether you want basics or advanced style. Good luck
EY2 - D1 is D. What made you think EY?
A manager did that to me when I was a C. I was asked to add to two tabs of a pre-filled/preformatted Excel sheet. Was yelled at for not having all the fonts uniform, column widths, etc. 99% of which was completely unrelated to what I added. Amused me, but I took it as an opportunity to learn his expectations. He gave me highest rating for the project, and we are on good terms. Just sayin'.
So ridiculous! If it makes you feel better, I run into the same thing all the time. Tough walking on eggshells over power points
Op, which practice? This seems like a person thing than a consulting thing.
How has no one else mentioned QTP yet? It's a PPT extension that auto-aligns things for you. Yes, your manager is a daft prick, but get QTP and you'll never get strung up over a PPT alignment issue again, by him or any other moron you come across.
Amen. I couldn't agree more.
EY4 - the only issues I've had are little things like this. Outside of that I've basically ran the project myself because she's not technical at all.
What's the turnaround on creative services and how do I get in touch with them? We have some more documentation coming up and I'd rather pass it off to them to avoid the headache.
I guess I'll pass on creative services. I always get grilled on minor issues like formatting, but never for the actual content.
If I was at EY I'd be happy to show you - what version of PPT are guys using?
So D1 is EY😬
Thank you for all of the help guys! I am writing everything down for future reference.
D3 - PPT 2013 and I am looking at YouTube videos now to improve my skills.
D3 - thank you
