Unconscious Bias is real, I wear makeup everyday even when I work from home. Not a lot, but enough to not look like I just rolled out of bed. That said, I do for me, because I like the results (I don’t have great skin)…I don’t do it for others.
You don’t need makeup to appear executive. Do whatever makes you happy
There are studies to suggest that you do.
I think our parents' generation had a lot more discrimination in the workplace, especially in the tech industry. They were sort of expected to keep up appearances in order to be taken seriously. Now, I only wear makeup if I want to, and that's rare.
I put more effort into my hair but mascara, tinted spf, and chapstick are enough for me. Having a nice outfit and thoughtful appearance go way more. You can do a full face of makeup and look ridiculous.
I really think you have to be true to yourself. Look at Lisa Su, she’s pretty executive and she’s not exactly a dolled up kind of woman. Also, seeing that you’re a backend dev, I’m guessing you’re not often in the limelight like the CEO and Founder in here…
I work remotely most of the time, so if I’m on camera, I make sure you can see my eyebrows and try to make sure my hair is somewhat tamed. That’s my daily “look”
Basically, I’m saying: you’re doing great and you look great.

I believe there was a statistic I read that said women who do their hair and makeup for work make 20% more. I don’t know if this is true but I do tend to respect and trust people more who take care and carry themselves well. Whether that’s gym work outs, make up and hair, or work attire it can show up in many different ways.
It’s called executive presence. Taking care of your appearance is essential
Every day I take care
It’s rare that I take the time to do my make up for work. Sometimes I get in the mood. But at most, I will just do eyeshadow and mascara.
Depends on the call. I put on 'camera' makeup when there's a call outside of my team - blush, mascara, enough to look alive through the camera, but by no means a full beat, soft filter and portrait light (teams is better than zoom here) take care of most of it. I also use a ring light that helps me not look dead and for some reason hot-dog pink on camera. But I also think society is shifting to more accepting expressions of individuality as long as you bring professional demeanor and confidence.
