This sounds like an insanely unreasonable ask of the school. I have 3 boys, all of whom pee trained at or around 2 years old and none of whom nap trained, night trained, or poop trained until months or years later.
I'm really sorry this is an issue, because it truly shouldn't be. Good job on him! I hope you are able to find a solution!
Just chiming in as another mom saying that I feel your struggle from this post and it brought tears to my eyes. I hope that the 504 suggestion works because I can’t even imagine how difficult this has been for you and your son.
• Teachers remind him to pee right before nap, which he does, but he still ends up peeing while asleep.
• I even tried bribing him to stay awake, but he’s such a good sleeper that he always knocks out during the required 30 minute rest period.
• Cutting back on milk at breakfast, as it might help reduce accidents.
By law, the school has to give every child at least 30 minutes of rest time, so skipping naps isn’t an option. They strictly do not allow pull ups. Would a doctor’s note help?
This is crazy, they won’t avoid his nap but won’t help him? That’s nuts to me. Poor little baby and mom/dad ❤️
I’m so nervous about my son (2.5 years old) being toilet trained because he’s probably so nervous and shy and if something goes wrong, I won’t be there to support him. Making a kid potentially go through that daily is wild to me.
Here’s what I did with my son for a different reason - got him a vibrating watch. We practiced at home over the weekend so he wouldn’t be scared and it would follow their rules with malicious compliance - they can’t wake him up so now they don’t have to. Maybe that can help him break up the deep sleep.
Solidarity on hating school admin though. We HATE our sons. They gaslight and pretend they want what’s best for our kids, they are inflexible and nasty. Hate it.
Can they put a pull up on for nap? I wouldn’t cut his nap, they need naps for development.
Can you buy "nap underwear" that's really like thinx for kids? I think they make potty training underwear that essentially has the absorbency of a diaper in something that looks like underwear. So it's technically not a diaper or pull up but really is
This seems absolutely insane that they do not allow any kind of pull up or diaper at this age. You are dealing with craziness!!
How old is he? I am assuming at least 4.
Diapers
Are they not taking the kids to potty before nap? My 4 year old still pees during naps, but when they’re 2-3 hours. At school he only naps an hour max so haven’t run into issues so far.
My son hated nap time so the teacher told kids that didn’t want to sleep it was rest time, they could look at a book as long as they rested and didn’t wake the other kids.
I experienced wetting with both kids as they were super deep sleepers, it goes away but can have accidents up to age 10. Our pediatrician was amazing.
I bought washable pads on amazon (usually used for elderly) I put them on top of the bottom sheet, when they wet, usually just the pad got wet. It really saved me on laundry.
