Worst bosses. And why. Go 👇
Hi, I am new to Canada and currently living in Vancouver, BC. I was looking for opportunities in the Financial Services industry in the Metro Vancouver Area. I have about 3 years of experience in the Banking/Financial Services and HealthTech industry and worked alongside IBM and PwC in developing and implementing cutting-edge FinTech products for business clients of a Financial Institution and led the Finance and data science team at a Health tech startup. Let me know if anyone can help me.

I’ve worked at great agencies but I don’t regret it for a single day. The in house benefits are allowing me to have children and actually live my life
Yes but strictly because I’m now making bad work and am generally bored.
I toy with the idea of going back and then get sad because:
1) agency won’t pay me what I make right now
2) my health insurance is so much better now and doesn’t cost me a cent
3) I don’t have to work nights or weekends or plan my life around production schedules
4) I get a bonus and equity!
In house has more opportunity because it’s growing so fast. Companies that never had in house creative teams are building them. Once you stop thinking that agencies are the only places you can make great creative work, you’ll be better off. So much more time for side passion projects where can actually make a name for yourself beyond the advertising award shows.
Nope. Occasionally you miss the creative opportunities but what you give up for those opportunities isn’t worth it. Actually having a life, taking care of yourself, seeing your family & friends, etc. needs to be valued more. Im still astounded by the chokehold that agency life had on me
Yes. Unpopular opinion. What I miss- brilliantly creative people who aren’t afraid to challenge or debate, the intellectual stimulation was MUCH higher. What I don’t miss- not having a life.
For now, I’ll stay brand side. Not sure how long I make it before getting truly bored.
Things I miss: challenging clients to take risks. More opportunities to win awards.
Things I don’t miss: pitching, working nights and weekends, probably having to deal with going back in person
In all, I prefer client-side, especially now that we have kids.
Definitely missing the awards. But that's it.

I think a lot of the comments are from the creative perspective, but as a media person - no, I haven’t missed agency side at all. More money, more control over your media plan, more respect for your expertise and professional opinion. It’s not even close.
That. Part.
I’m leaving agency life for good in the next few weeks and I have no regrets. Long hours, not enough pay, and extremely demanding clients. Not the life I signed up for!
Many people say agencies are cutting edge and have huge sparks of creativity. But most times your just coming up with work arounds to satisfy your clients and to get them to renew a scope.
If you continue to learn and be inspired outside of work and you will not have to worry about being bored brand side.
Any advice or tips on leaving agency for the brand side?
Beyond appreciated feedback!!💓
I was on the production company side, and found the agency side was better so I jumped there. And now that I’m on the brand side, its a very clear winner over agency life. Better hours, benefits, and pay. People on brand side (at least where I am) are way less intense and toxic. I also deal with far fewer ‘emergencies’ after-hours than what I dealt with at agencies.
The trade off is generally the quality of the creative work and a little more bureaucracy. I’m totally fine with that. Maybe I’m jaded but it didn’t feel like much of the work produced at my agencies were all that cool, interesting, or impactful anyway.
Not for a second
I've had three in-house roles after 8 years in agencies. At first job and current job, don't miss agency life at all.
No. Agency life you are fighting for your life; a massive client decides to pull their work in-house, your job could be on the chomping block.
I have found brand-side soo much slower but far more stable.
Agency life is good early in your career; you’ll learn a lot and quickly. Later in your career stability is better.
true.

No.
Way better benefits, pay and work life balance brand side. But I miss the creativity and energy from the agency side. I felt more challenged there.
No. I did miss being at agency for a split second. However, I missed the known routine and not dealing with the unknowns of a new job. It lasted for a millisecond and I’m so glad I made the jump!
