You should prepare, but you also need to practice sounding natural. So both of you are right. Try recording yourself doing a mock interview and then play-it back. Keep practicing until both you and your husband think it sounds good.
I got feedback once that I sounded too polished. Now I research heavily, but I don’t memorize. If I stumble slightly, it actually makes me sound more genuine and confident.
If there is a place to connect to mission or current news in the interview go for it - so be prepared. I wouldn’t try to force it or try to discuss an event or transaction you clearly don’t understand as it will come across awkward and seem as though you are just repeating their website.
For instance I work in real estate, sometimes candidates quote our exact space and the goals on our website for our space goals. This often comes across unnatural vs someone saying I noticed you are working toward almost doubling your space. Also, I don’t have those facts and figures memorized so it leaves me stumbling on random sq footages. Hope that helps as an example.
