New to HR. What book should I absolutely read?

I've been interviewing with another company for about a month. The whole process has been 3 interviews over a months time. I have been in my current role over 6+ years (as HR mgr) and it's very transactional and not very strategic. The new company wants someone to lead a team from a senior level (HR Director) - what advice do you have for taking the next step in my career? I'm likely going to take the offer if it comes.

Revenue scam? If a company is charging an employee (deducting form their pay) to pay for a write off, wouldn’t the company have had to actually lose money to warrant recouping this from the employee? (Example) John made a mistake on an invoice overcharging $200. The customer didn’t pay the extra $200. The company (employer) didn’t actually lose money though, it was incorrect paperwork. But employeer is charging John a 10% fee to write off the $200, making him pay the employer $20. Legal???

Advice needed:
My company’s performance review period is going on. Direct reports do a performance review for their direct managers, and that review is then viewed by the manager, but is anonymous. I really have been struggling with my manager as they really micromanage and hover over a lot of my work. *I am also their only direct report.*
I am unsure how to be honest on my feedback/manager review as they are clearly going to know it was me, since I am the only one they manage.

I have a 5 hour layover, was gonna book that Niranta room for a couple hours (traveling with 2 kids).
