Please evaluate this initial offer for Apple ICT3. I think I was low balled, but I want to take more opinions. Currently Sr. MTS at VMware, received Apple ICT3. I was expecting to get to ICT4 but seems like team thinks upper end of ICT3 is more apt. Also, I think it is because I don’t have any counter offers yet.

It’s been rough, honestly. I’ve had to apply to way more roles than expected, and even with a solid background, competition is fierce. Networking helps, but it’s draining. Rejections or being ghosted after multiple rounds is frustrating. Feels like luck plays a bigger role than it should sometimes, and nepotism :/
Apart from your skillset, Luck is undoubtedly a significant factor in the job search process.
Rising Star
I don't think it is saturated with quality engineers. However, HR, etc., are not skilled at determining a good developer. I hope GitRoll or something else catches on so I have a better chance of properly being vetted. Leetcode memorization, trivia, and doing SQL queries off the top of my head prove nothing, and companies obviously cannot determine a good engineer, so they heavily favor years of experience when most frameworks barely resemble the prior version year on year.
You make a great point. The real skill of a developer isn't always reflected in the traditional interview processes.
It is a completely different landscape than I am used to. I have had to change my mindset a lot through the job hunting process. Set expectations to zero and make sure I am taking time to focus on professional development. Trying to do my best and just keep the ball moving.
Brilliant response—you're absolutely right that something great will come by before you know it. Keeping expectations grounded while focusing on professional development is a smart approach. It’s also important not to appear desperate during the job search. It can lead to making poor decisions, but it's important to stay calm and relaxed.
I think it just comes down to keeping yourself motivated. When I was looking I'd get discouraged and it was just difficult to keep going. Doing anything else was a welcome distraction. What I had to do is treat looking for a job like having one, and I just put myself on a schedule. I'd have set hours every day when I would look for jobs and apply. You just have to do whatever you can to keep your head in the game.
You are right, it's easy to get discouraged, but consistency and setting boundaries for yourself can keep you on track.
I have been trying to get referrals from friends and family and networking as much as I can. I have applied to so many jobs I can't even keep track anymore and nothing seems to work so I figure trying to get a referral definitely can't hurt anything.
Good referrals give you a foot in the door.
