Newbie landlord question: Going to be renting out my NYC apartment for the first time. My mortgage is through Chase. Called them today and they said my new tenants will need to sign a lease that they provide. I assume this is normal?

That’s not how it works with my bank. They are not involved at all.

Why did you contact Chase? They have no business about whether you rent it out or not

like

AP is right. It’s none of their business. So long as you’re paying your mortgage on time, they’ll never know. Transfer the property into an LLC, rent it out, and pay your mortgage on time.

I find it hilarious you are 1) self aware that you're a n00b, 2) get answers from several people giving you the same advice, 3) trying to argue that they are wrong

Why did you even ask the question?

like

Nonsense. You don't need to ask the Internet. Read your mortgage note. Show me the clause

After you have lived there for 1 year - you don't need to report jackshit with what you are doing with your property. Please know the rules before giving them info that they don't need.

You just have to change your home insurance. I have a realtor license as well.

Hope you all are having a great weekend. Just wanted to share a tip for all of those who are looking to connect with former employees - there is a filter function at Linkedin which allows you to do so (and you can combine that with the filter on location - then you can almost always find at least 2-3 people you can reach out to and ask about the firm and practice group you are thinking of lateralling).

Feel free to share any other tip with the fellow fishes!

The value is now over 400K and I have an equity of over 150K. We are thinking of moving to a different state.Should we rent this place ($2400/month) and with recent refinance my mortgage will be $1600/month(inclu pay all) or sell it to pull out equity for the new home in a different state? FYI: we have over 100K in cash to down payment.

I went under contract last fall for a new build that will be done later this year. In the contract the seller/builder included a clause that gave them the ability to change the price without cause anytime before the house is complete. This past week they invoked that clause to increase the price by like 7%, supposedly due to material costs. I can either agree to the increase or they return my deposit. My question: is that type of clause even legal? (Cont)
