I would wait until the day vesting begins to put in your notice in the case they try to make your last day immediately.
Yes, 100% agree that just because you offer 2 weeks, doesn’t mean they have to give it. Wait until your vesting date to give your notice. I’ve worked at places where they would often walk people out the door when they have notice.
I recommend waiting until you actually vest. Not sure where you’re located, but many jurisdictions permit employers to waive the notice period, which means that if you resign before you vest, they can dismiss you before your actual vesting date and you’re out of luck. If it’s an important vesting date, wait it out
If they terminate you immediately, they almost certainly don’t need to let you vest
I’d say 2 weeks notice, but depending on the culture of the org - it might be prudent to wait until you hear (some places will terminate on the spot, some don’t except in extreme circumstances).
They cannot pip you within 2 weeks, after putting you on pip they should give you time. Even if they directly ask you to leave, they should give atleast a month time unless you are on probation. So wait until the vest. Once you are decided to leave doesn't matter they pip you or not.
If you have another job lined up, can you negotiate with them and see if they’ll match the vesting amount? The new company wants you and if they want you badly enough, maybe they can factor in the vesting amount as a sign on bonus or something. Then you can resign your current job with no regrets.
Vest! You earned that money. I was recently in a similar scenario and was thinking to quit before I vested so it “looked better”. My husband told me no man would ever do that. I earned the 364 days of stock I was getting. Quit the day after you get the notification your shares are in your account.
Also you don’t have to tell anyone about the pip do you? References with your manager won’t change if it’s formal or not so you shouldn’t have anything to worry about re getting fired.
What exactly does PIP stand for.
Performance improvement plan. Essentially a legal way to fire someone
Why do you think it’s a pip ? What company is it ?
Don’t wanna dox myself, but pip is for performance as my manager says.
The basic reason was that he wanted an internal transfer who had experience in the codebase, but wasn’t getting and hired me to fill in the headcount. After 2-3 months he got his transfer ready to onboard and i got redundant, so he started to push my limits into why i am not performing at that level and not ramping up faster. I tried hard for 2-3 months to reach his expectations but he always wanted more. I don’t think i can ever work more than i have done already or please him. He might hate me from the looks of it
How many years did it take you to vest? It could mean leaving a lot of money behind. I would wait until you are vested.
After a year, i vest every month, so it is some amount but i want peace more than anything else. I know that the manager is planning pip next week, and i just want to leave without taking that mental load. That’s why i am thinking of just saying i give my notice period 2 weeks before and be done with the pressure

Don’t resign until you are vested.

Don’t risk it. You earned the stock. Cliff vesting is just that.
