As far as billionaires go, I'd argue Buffett is much more in touch than the majority of the rest. I also didn't read this as him saying salaries don't matter at all, just that finding a place where you can learn and grow (and in turn earn more money) is the smarter long term play.

I don't think he's out of touch at all. In fact, I think Millennials & Gen Z are already in the mindset of prioritizing freedom over money. I know many who took the lesser paying job because they like the culture more at one company or they liked the people/managers more. I think quality of life and work life is becoming more important vs the number. And i think that's what he's getting at here.
I'm sure there was a time when it made sense not to worry too much about your salary fresh out of school. However, that time is not now. With the current incoming and the cost of housing, food, basical living needs, salary has to be everyone's first concern.

It’s just tone deaf and it’s not so much them and what they are saying, it’s what we are all going through that makes it that way. I actually really agree with the premise, focusing on what the company can do for you, people you’ll gain as contacts, solid advice. However, to live a bare basic lifestyle, we need to worry about salary right now.
