On a scale of 1 (disaster) to 10 (masterchef), how would you rate your baking skills?

Yes I’ve since gotten better. Had to play around with the flour and baking powder ratios as well as temp. It’s still not as good as at sea level but at least it doesn’t look like a sombrero

8 or 8.5?

Cooking 7-8
Baking 3-4
Bread baking 6-7
Daughter in law is a 8-9 in pastry/cakes/cookies. I’ve outsourced holiday baking entirely to her, and I just pay for anything she needs while enjoying the results.

Around a 6 or so.

I've baked all our bread for several years from flour I grind myself. I buy wheat directly from the farmer 25lbs at a time.

It's a lot tastier than bread I can get from most bakeries, and I live in San Francisco.

I can also make a pretty passable stollen and brioche, and someone told me some white bread I made for stuffing was the most delicious white bread they'd ever had.

I don't know how to convert that to a 1-10 scale but I think I'm doing pretty well for a software engineer with zero formal culinary education!

Quickbreads (muffins, banana bread, etc) are super easy for me at this point, I understand the mechanics of them well enough that I can even improvise a recipe and have it turn out pretty well. Which is pretty cool when the flavor idea I have turns out well!

I can't seem to roll a pie crust to save my %$&@ing life, though. I keep trying (Stella's recipe is the one I have the best luck with) but it's very slow progress since I can't eat nearly as much pie as I can bread lol

An 8. l make my own cheesecake. I have a basic recipe and then add different things to it to customize it. My kids and grandkids get the cheesecake of their choice for their birthdays. I add things like Oreo cookies, peanut butter cups, chocolate etc.

I'd say I'm a 7 in both cooking & baking. I love it, so that's half the battle to being better than good.

I would say 8/10. Still improving in Baking (6.5/10).

ADVICE WANTED. I’m a Program Analyst on my first government contract. I work with SharePoint and Power Automate and been on the contract for about a year. There’s been high turnover and I don’t know if I should start looking for jobs. I want to get into tech, finance, or obtain more program management skills. Pretty much open to anything being a young professional. Any advice? Thanks in advance.

I initially asked for 135k at my startup. They offered 115k and we ended at 125k. Within two weeks my manager left and everything shifted to me. I received praise for the work I did and to this day I still own all those responsibilities and some. We hired a backfill who has now decided to leave for cultural reasons, similar to my manager. I have been wanting to quit for sometime but wondering if this is a good opportunity to push for 20k more and leave in 4 months instead of next week.
