One of my ex-colleague has joined a small startup and things didn't go well with him and he has quit the firm.

The said firm is now sending him legal notice to pay back the entire salary he has received along with the joining bonus. Seems they have put this in one of the terms of the offer letter and got this signed.

Now, they have started sending him legal notice as well. Kindly confirm anyone has faced this issue and a possible way out.
