Any books that you found very helpful to read as expecting parents? We’re just nine weeks along, but would love to start preparing however we can!

Expecting Better by Emily Oster - it was recommended to me by multiple people and I’m glad I read it. Accessible, funny, easy to read and not too overwhelming - it’s a look at…well…what to expect.

I’m reading this right now! I really like it. I like how she explain why she found different studies credible, while also really sharing her findings in a very simple way.

“Happiest baby on the block “ for helping baby transition to his/her new environment earthside. “Precious little sleep” for understanding babys sleep needs by age (constantly changing) and helping establish good sleep hygiene habits as early as possible. Both are for when baby is actually here though, so I’d wait till closer to the due date ( or plan on pulling them back out after babys arrival).

As others have said, Expecting Better. Here are the others I’ve finished:
- Cribsheet - Emily Oster
- Bringing up Bebe
- 12 Hours Sleep by 12 Weeks (similar advice to Bebe regarding sleeping, allowing babies to self soothe, etc.)

Books I’m about to start:
- What to Expect when Expecting
- Baby 411

Relationship is going pretty well apart from my partner being pretty unhealthy… I like to eat clean in general but she doesn’t like veggies and I’m a little fearful for our future family if she’s just encouraging them to “eat what you feel like” is there anyway to help change this behaviour? Any suggestions? It’s not like I never go eat fast food or what not, just that our frequency of consuming desserts has increased exponentially after we started dating and she doesn’t exercise either

Trying not to be reactive here until my doctor calls, but… obviously can’t help it. My blood test today (28w) came back with results that are worrying me. My RBC and HCT are low (below the standard range) which would indicate slight anemia, but ferritin came back totally normal. This alone wouldn’t cause me too much concern, except that I have counts for NRBC, which seems like a bigger problem. Has anyone else gone through this?

I’m in my 3rd tri and feeling like I’m carrying the weight (pun intended) more than my partner. He’s active and involved but not proactive or ‘on it’. As in - he’s usually the one to cook but doesn’t plan ahead for dinners; if I ask for help on a big cleaning day, he’ll help but constantly leaves dishes, trash, clothes everywhere (even right next to bins and hampers!). Usually it’s not an issue but… (cont).

How did you know when you were ready to have a baby? Or were you ready before you had your first? My husband wants to start having kids and has been pushing for it for a couple years now, but I take care of our finances, and I don’t feel at all prepared. Maybe I’m also a little scared to become a mom, so I keep saying finances is my excuse, but I am also a little financially concerned. I don’t feel ready emotionally and him pressing me is making it harder.

Hi all, I was recently contacted by a headhunter for an incredible opportunity at a great startup.

I've always wanted to work for a startup and the product is awesome. I have made it to the last round. I am also 7 months pregnant (visible) and the last interview will be in person at their headquarters.

Should I say something before coming into the office for the last interview?

I’m 16 weeks pregnant and haven’t told anybody at work. My team is organizing an out of town networking event next week (60+ people) and I’m getting second thoughts about attending (mostly because of covid or any other virus I could get by flying in or attending). Am I overreacting or being crazy for thinking this way? I don’t know whether I should attend or not, and if I decide not to, what my excuse could be as I don’t want anybody to think they can’t count on me anymore bc I’m pregnant. Help!

Does anyone have any locations they’d recommend? Florida seems kind of lame but it’s easy to get to and still warm lol. Early march time frame!
