I’ve put myself up for L4 promo this cycle. Assuming I get it, what would be the best next steps to optimize for long-term growth/TC?
My understanding is that L5->L6 is extremely painful at Google. It may be easier to leave for a handful of years and gain managerial experience before returning.
L4->L5 is less challenging; however, I’m under the impression I can do this quicker at another company (if I leave after being freshly promo’d) AND get higher TC.

I really like it here
Have been at Google ten years + now. This still feels like a very good company to work at; most people are nice and competent (with the usual few exceptions). The trajectory is very good.
It is hard to get in -- I usually get a hundred applicants or more when I post a role.
Would love to hear more about your trajectory and what you like about working there :)
Lots of enthusiasm and optimism about our trajectory. We've scored some big wins recently that folks have rallied around. Obviously nothing is set in stone, but things seemed a lot more uncertain when the AI race first started.
Really like it here. Most teams are good and inspiring, with a culture to appreciate. Compared to other big tech, Google is more people friendly and care about employees. RSU appreciation has made it lucrative, many are sitting on large amounts. It’s indicated in low attrition. Googlers move teams to get promoted. But most don’t leave Google

Awesome
I love it.
Moved from a traditional large consulting firm to a nimble and quick Google Cloud Consulting. People are incredibly talented, nice, and I love that I don’t have to beat clients over the head with change orders or find ways to increase $$ on an account like I did at my previous consulting firm.
Even if it’s less money, jump at Google if you get a chance to move from Accenture, Deloitte, and those type of firms to Google,
Hey can u elaborate. I am soon to become manager at KPMG in cyber practice but now getting opportunity to join as L4 / Consultant at Mandiant strategic Consulting. Is it worthit to join. Comp seems it will be more but the growth that i have at KPMG was quite accelerated. also i am not sure about exposure. At KPMG i have had a great exposure working on some very impactful national engagement. any word of advice would be appreciated
Promo is stagnant.
There’s a bit of lingering trauma around the latest layoffs and cost optimization efforts.
I like my team; but it’s difficult to feel safe after what we’ve seen internally.
It’s probably better than whatever else is out there; but once you’ve been here for a few years it feels the same as any other job, unfortunately.
I heard internal promotion is quite stagnant now. Company is on a great trajectory though. So feel like you might get good RSU appreciation, but could get faster promo and learning in other big tech.
Would yall say it is tougher to get in these days?
That sounds awesome, hoping I’ll join yall on the other side - actually, manifesting that I WILL so see you guys soon 😂
Don't get sick... 4 people in one area went on STD and all were fired for "different " reasons. After research, there are several high profile cases with the same AS DA discrimination
