All 3 should be illegal
Most government funded tech like this has a poor ROI and reliability, but the shot spotter was proven to work in police arriving to a gunshot within minutes. Very mad that he is trying to remove them. They make it much more likely to catch a violent offender and keep the streets safe (assuming our DAs/prosecutors and judges do their jobs).
"Helps saves lives in undeserved communities"
Any evidence to support that? In an 18 month period reviewed by the city OIG concluded that less than 10% of Shotspotter alerts actually led to evidence of gun crimes:
"Of the 50,176 confirmed, 41,830 report a disposition—the outcome of the police response to an incident. Of those dispositions, a total of 4,556 indicate that evidence of a gun-related criminal offense was found, representing 9.1% of CPD responses to ShotSpotter alerts."
Tens of millions of dollars for a 90%+ false alarm rate doesnt seem like a good use of money.

Completely acknowledge it's not perfect. However the Superintendent of police, who most Chicagoans including me seem to respect, fully supported keeping it. That in and of itself was good enough for me.
What is a shotspotter?
To detect if there have been gun shots
Maybe he'll turn it on tonight with national NYE people in town like he did with the teen curfew.
