When I moved to chicago area over 10 years ago I didn’t know about Austin and found a apartment in the area. I called and said I’m moving from out of state and wanted to set up a time to look at the apt and the lady said this place is not for you. I should look elsewhere.
Oak park is good. Stay away from Austin

I have friends that live in oak park that enjoy it. but now that I think about it, i’ve driven through the austin part and it’s not very savory. what are you looking for specifically? i’ve lived in chicago my whole life and can try to assist
Yes it really is that unsafe.
It goes from Austin to oak park in a matter of a couple blocks. The boundaries are evident. The west side is pretty violent.
