Planning a wedding and shocked by how much stuff costs, even as someone who is in big law. Recent brides, what was your total spend? Some quotes I’ve received have felt insane…

30k all in to get married in Brooklyn. Sunday wedding, no bridal party, 65 guests. We had an amazing day. It’s the high guest count that will kill you.

$100k, married in Chicago, and about 130 people. We only got back like $9k and so many people didn’t give a gift. It was wild. 100% regret spending what I did. My best advice is to stay away from social media weddings. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the weddings of Instagram or whatever and think yes I need a hanging flower installation for $20k (which I pushed for but my husband was like absolutely not lol).

I will say my wedding was beautiful. I’d keep my venue, food, and flowers but would have cut the guest list in half (great aunt Susan or whatever didn’t need to come), not had a bridal party, and gotten rid of dumb extras (shuttle service, hotel block, etc.)

For me, we paid for hair and make up, bouquets, pjs, a thank you gift, and a bridesmaid proposal gift. Again, this was the product of me being persuaded by social media. You can totally ask your BMs to pay for hair and make up and don’t really need to do a proposal or pjs.

We had a larger bridal party, which also meant we needed bigger transportation to the venue, a bigger rehearsal space, bigger getting ready space, and bigger head table (which drove up the cost of flowers). My bridal party was also a lot of drama.

As for the hotel block, it’s generally no cost as long as you hit the minimum, which could be % of the contract cost or a number of rooms. If they don’t, then you’re on the hook for paying the difference. With the hotel block, we also felt pressure to arrange the transportation and do a welcome event. Again do not be a people pleaser like me lol

2.5k— courthouse wedding, but splurged on private lunch at nice restaurant with family.

I don’t know the final total but around 125k for 130 people.

About 90,000 for 100 people outside of NYC. Don’t regret it at all - such an amazing night with friends from all different parts of my life that I’ll never have in one place like that again

I want to say around $40k all in for venue, food/open bar, dress, photography, DJ, decor, everything for a Midwest wedding with just under 100 guests. We definitely shopped around a lot to find the best prices and our venue was designed for smaller weddings.

I’m getting married next year. And I’m also on the older side of 30s so pretty financially stable. I don’t know what else I would spend on other wise but it will be expensive. Getting married in a country my fiancé is from so it’s also kind of destination. It’ll be 3 days at least but yeah looking at close to 50k. I feel ok with spending that amount though. I’ve invited a bridal party but I’m not doing the matching dress thing I think.

Yay! Excited for you. I didn’t realize Mexico could be that much now! At least it’s for a week or something right?

We spent about $10k. 45 guests, food included as well as wine and beer with a cash bar. I made my own centerpieces/decor and bought flowers at Trader Joe’s. Dress bought off the rack. The only thing I’d do differently is hire a better photographer - we used the one provided by the venue but she wasn’t very good and I ended up editing the photos myself.

$35-40k (at some point I lost track), not counting honeymoon which was another $12k. San Diego – 140 invites probably 110 in attendance.

I was in audit for about 4 years then switched to provisions. I’m now 7 years in and want a more steady schedule.
