Job-Hunting reach-out to VC from previous fundraising effort for own startup
I have e-mail archive from 1y ago of my reach-out to 65 VCs in London: we had video calls, they might remember me still, who knows.
I want to send a reply/forward message to the same e-mail thread from abc@gmail.com, saying that I am looking for roles within their VC firm. Is that a good idea?
Or shall I just start new email thread and mention how I know them?

Never. It’s only hurts your leverage. You can say that you don’t feel comfortable disclosing your current rate. Negotiations should revolve around the role and your experience only. I would also say it’s a huge red flag if a company pressures you to disclose your current rate and provide evidence.

When I face that kind of recruiters, I answer with the same answer given by PM1.
If it’s not sufficient and they keep asking, I give them either an educated answer by asking for their salary grid to be able to answer, or a maximum number to bargain with and from, or I mention that they came to me and that a proposal they should make by themselves if willing to disclose it and not a question they should ask in case of a direct approach.
To me, it’s as much funny as a recruiter who calls you (direct approach) and the next guy that asks you “why did you apply to our firm”, my answer in such case was very funny one time : “well, don’t you know that’s your CEO that called me?” Or “Well, I never applied” and it was legit in both cases 😂
I let you imagine the face of the recruiter facing that answer.
Me thinking : internal communications seems to heavily suck there, let’s write it and write minus minus signs.
They never hired me.
And I would have not accepted such red flags.
PM1 is right, flee that kind of recruiters.
They are only harming the profession and your career.
To share another anecdote:
Head hunter calls me.
They say we hunt for a firm in tech consulting.
I answer I consider strategy and management only.
The calls ends.
They email me a GDPR file with ref request.
I fill it plus I add a clause to give them the grant to send my resume only to the discussed firm.
These morons sent it to another firm.
Unfortunately for them I interviewed with that firm last year.
I just blacklisted the headhunter and headhunting firm. And I also sent and email to the firm in question which I interviewed with last year to let them know and an inmail to and ex-colleague working at the discussed firm.
That’s an appropriate approach for recruiters lacking professional ethics that all applicants should follow.
And I find it to be quite fair.

NEVER disclose your current compensation. Pivot and if cornered say “My current competition should not affect my ability to perform this role at a high level. For my next role, I’d be looking for a range of $x-$y”
