Publicis continues to laugh off the acquisition rumors, but thinking about it: advertising holding companies are the only industry I believe SHOULD all merge and have a single holding company for all the “traditional” agencies.
Advertising is just not the giant it once was. Clients are going in-house. If it was, the same 4 holding companies wouldn’t be buying up every promising smaller agency as soon as they get big.
One (or two) big holding companies, and all the agencies underneath.
They’re laying people off after paying Snoop $1MM to star in their company video. So there’s that.

EDIT: I’ve completely changed my stance. I thought the solution was less option to force more searching (on the independent market). The reality isn’t that. Problem is how clients want to pay and the holding company model just isn’t ideal for it anymore. At least not in the creative space.
