My dog is allowed on everything we use (with the exception of chairs at the kitchen table lol). It’s one of my great joys to see my dog get comfy on the couch or bed just like us. There’s no right or wrong way - just love on your new pup, and the rest will come
I have a corgi, so he is one of the breeds vulnerable to back injuries from jumping on/off furniture or on stairs. He’s allowed on the couch, but not allowed to jump on and off on his own. He knows how to ask when he wants to go up or down. 😊
Yes to couch and bed. I did teach my dogs a "down" command, and they are very good at promptly getting down from either when told.
I let my dog on the furniture but as soon as they start to scratch, chew, or tear it up I no longer let them on any of the furniture. But most times I restrict him from being on the couch as some of our guests are allergic to pets.
I love these dogs more than life but I need quality sleep to be a tolerable human, so no dogs on the bed. They are as big as me so we all wouldn't fit anyways.
Theyre allowed on most of our couches, and they know based on the ones that have pet covers, but we have a sectional in the family room that is off limits in case someone doesn't prefer to sit with dogs or is sensitive to dander, or when we just want a break from the cuddles. They're definitely capable of learning specific rules for each unique piece of furniture if that's the route you want to go. Just have to be consistent about enforcement.
Our dog can be on the couch or the bed only with permission, and only when we are there too. She responds well when we give her the command to get off the furniture. She stays on her bed during the day when we are gone.

My dogs own my house. They can’t reach up on tables or counters so that’s safe. Lol.
Allowed anywhere but thankfully he’s not super cuddly so he completely avoids the couch and only lays on our bed when we’re not in it. If we do invite him up, it’s like 30 minutes max. Then he finds a cool floor to rest on. For the record he’s a 90lb GSD with high confidence and always on alert/patrol, so it appears as if he prefers being within view of the front door.
I can tell we have a bunch of dog lovers here. And a bunch of softies. BUT YES AS WELL. REASONING IS THAT they're part of the family but still set boundaries and remember only one alpha of the family/pack leader!

My dog is allowed on the couch and bed. The only exception is when guests are over, the couch is a no. But in all fairness, he hates people so is usually crated when guests arrive and then on a leash by my side after a bit.
I tried to keep my dog off the living room furniture when she was a puppy, but between me never owning a pet before and her being a stubborn breed - she has never learned. And honestly, I’m okay with that! It’s her home too! None of my pets have ever wanted their own beds I bought them. 😂
My dogs have a pet couch. They are allowed everywhere except my bedroom.
My Little dude has access to the couch and bed really by choice he doesn’t like chairs.
Past dog was free game, but as he got dementia and older it was difficult to let him sleep on the bed with bladder issues. Difficult for family and friend to watch him because he wanted to sleep in bed with tj also.
New dog has couch privileges but no bed privileges.
Couch is fine, I wouldn’t want her on the bed but she’s never tried to jump on as her bed is next to it so we’ve never had to tell her to get off it.
I have a few dogs. We let them on furniture unless they recently let them out to use the bathroom. Sometimes we just use our discretion depending if we were wanting to keep the bedsheets cleaner. I think with just one dog you should be perfectly fine if it’s mid size or smaller. It does cause natural wear on the furniture but with just one dog it could take a long time to notice the wear
I purchased a dog couch for my boys. No more fluffy beds that fall apart. They have full rein of the house except for my bedroom. I tried it before but they did their business on my bed. So nope now off limits.
A good vet will tell you that dogs prefer a firm to hard surface to sleep on (even though they may look pretty comfy on the couch). In my house: dog on couch OK for small dogs but not big dogs; dog on bed - nope. I don't even like sharing it with my husband LOL.
