Question?
I got a job & love 99% of it. I'm 6 months into the job now, & love it even more. Only bad 1% is the salary. To low for the workload. Job was posted 16 to 23K range, part time. Settled on 1 year contract at 18K. They said the only reason they could not offer me more because they are a non-profit. They're super happy with my professional 15y. work experience.
New contact is coming. What tactics can I use to get 23,000. this time around?
Thank you everyone for yor advise.

$18k -> $23k is a ~28% raise. If you’re freelance/part time, the best way to get there is to increase your hours/output by that much (I.e. if you’re doing 20 hours, jump to 25).

Make up the rest by presenting how you are over delivering on your current hours.

Make a list of all the accomplishments and projects that you have worked on. Talk about your value to the company. If your not great making the letter sound professional and self selling put all your notes into chat gpt and have her write it for you. Good luck and I hope you get the raise! Out of curiosity what area of the country are you in?

Best way to get an increase with a nonprofit is to show how you save them money/earn them money. Not sure what your role is, but if it's Copywriter for example, show how your playbook saved the team time or your posts have boosted donations. If the pay is unsustainable for you - you would have to look for a job that wouldn't leave time for their assignment no matter how much you love it - tell them that.

What is the currency? USD, CAD, Euro, GBP,...? I'm just curious here.
Whichever it is seem low to me. But I'm not sure what you do for them as a freelancer, so I'm having to go with my personal experience in my line of work as far as pay goes.
If they do not increase your income on the contract renewal, do you have another plan? Are you going to say, "Thanks, but no thanks" on less than 28% increase? Will you look for other freelance work for more income? I'm sure you could get more work to gain more income as a freelancer.
You have time to decide as you're only halfway through your first contract.
Just my thoughts.

What to you do when a recruiter emails you about jobs in another city (LA) and asks what you currently make (in Chicago) if you’re greatly underpaid?

I work in a sucky IBM cic, making $54k. It’s a full time job with regular benefits and vacation etc, it’s working with government clients. The job isn’t what I applied for & constantly changes. I don’t like that, but I’m a full time employee which is “stable employment”. Btw, I’m in the DC area.

I just got hired for a government contract through Accenture for a Business Analyst role. Pay is $65 per hour. 3 year contract. Benefits too. No PTO. Holidays off with pay, after 90 days.

Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations

I’ve been approached my by company that one of our large clients (who im currently project managing for) is looking for a consultant of sorts, and if they hire us, I’d be the first person asked to take on this consultant role. This isn’t something my company typically offers and would greatly change the scope of my role. Has anyone ever taken on a role like this? If so, were you able to negotiate a percentage of the consulting fee? Or was it a bump in salary during the project?

I’m currently in a lease admin type role, in commercial real estate. I make a base salary of $50.5K with about $9k in bonuses. I’ve continuously received 7-10% raises over the last 3 years. I’m the only person in my role at the company and have been a key person in developing our team as we look to expand. Is this unreasonable? Is there a normal increase given with promotions? Thanks in advance!
