Let’s talk speed reading. I’m a slow reader and listened to a podcast recently on speed reading. I’m intrigued. Who here speed reads? How did you learn those skills, and what types of documents do you speed read in practice? How do you bill your time? The busier I am the harder it is to bill. How do people actually bill contemporaneously in detailed terms when you bill 12 hours but literally did 100 different things in those 12 hours. And it’s never slow enough to go back and do it super detailed.

When is it acceptable for a junior to raise their hand and say they’re drowning? Like billing how many hours on consecutive days? Just getting a sanity check.

I’m have a new theory about why juniors always feel like idiots and wanted to see if anyone else thinks this makes sense. I’m a third year, and am the most junior person all of my teams (generally me, a senior or two, and a partner or two), and I always feel like I’m messing something up. Is this just because I never get to work with other juniors and don’t see the mistakes they make, and that it’s relatively normal? And FWIW I went to HYS and I’ve had a clerkship so it’s not like I’m not smart

Maybe stop saying yes to matters that are too small to justify our rates and staffing an expensive senior person on them when you’re already dying trying to get anything staffed. You didn’t have to do shit on this matter, didn’t hear you complaining about my taking the lead and managing everything for you when that was happening. >.>
