Hi! What's the difference between Product Strategy, Corporate Strategy, S&O, and BizOps? Thank you!

General differences:
1. Product Strategy: help tech product line of business leaders plan & execute product sales roadmap & launches, etc
2. Corporate Strategy: help company leaders identify key business strategy / goals / milestones, M&A targets, etc
3. Strategy & Ops: generally aligned to a non tech line of business leader (in Core Google, YouTube, GCP, etc) to lead revenue acceleration and operational excellence initiatives that are generally established and need to run consistently across teams

Super helpful, thanks!

Do you happen to know which roles pay more, and have wider responsibilities? Where does BizOps fit in?

BizOps is basically internal consulting. They take on projects across orgs where there isn't the ability/resourcing to tackle the problem themselves.

helpful

Product Strategy will typically pay higher because you're on the product ladder. There others are non tech and probably have similar comp.

What do you do at GS? I turned down a role on their digital marketing team to work at Google and am wondering if I made the right choice…took way less $$ at Google, but think it’s a better WLB. I didn’t like that GS doesn’t give their employees laptops

True! Only been here for a short time though so definitely need to stick it out for longer before I reevaluate

Please who knows about the advisory practice within the PwC financial crime unit (Canada Acceleration Centre)? I understand it is a client non-facing advisory role. Would it be a good career decision for someone coming from GRC firms like Kroll, Control Risk or Exiger? I am concerned about the negative reviews relating to the PwC acceleration centres in general, and getting stuck in a role which does not provide growth opportunities. Thank you.

Is there any realistic way where tipping in the US goes away and we start to be like other countries (e.g. Europe/Asia)? Raise the price of the food, pay servers a fair wage, no tips? Just a dream 😅

I'm guessing no because businesses will fight hard against this (customers subsidize wages) and certain servers benefit from tipping as well.

Only other thing I can think of is if everyone collectively decides not to ever tip again and it forces business to change. Won't happen though.

Serious question from a happy software engineer, what do you all love about your work/actually enjoy doing during working hours?

I'll start; I'm privileged enough to have been given the opportunity to work and learn deeply on Linux and Kubernetes, and I get to tinker and play with them all day. Problem solving with them is a "fun" part of my job.

Of course most things aren't roses and sunshine, but I'd love to hear the positive parts of what you are doing, or what you like to do at work.

Had my virtual on-site for an S&O L3 role 3.5 weeks ago (NYC, 5 YOE). I haven’t heard back on a decision yet, and was wondering how long it typically takes? I also know that I was one of the very first candidates to interview for this specific role, and there are atleast 2 more people scheduled for onsites. Does the recruiter typically wait for all candidates to finish their onsites before communicating a decision? Or if I haven’t heard back yet, it’s probably a reject?

Hi all- My SO is currently at a Big4 & was initially preparing for S&O roles at GCP but given the high number of ex MBB consultants hired, they believe its just more competition to get the offer & to eventually get promoted over time.

Instead, they have decided to pursue program manager or cloud consultant roles, which they feel might have a lower barrier to entry from an assessment standpoint. Not sure if the bowl agrees but would like to get your thoughts, thanks!
