If I were you I would also seek some feedback on your technical capabilities. Your internal reputation will depend on whether people want to work with you and be reliable and useful. Good people are always wanted on projects whatever their ‘brand’. Seek some honest feedback as to how your colleagues and clients value you and take a hard look at your abilities. People often don’t get on in consultancy or get the best projects because people regard them as less capable or even a poor performer. I less convinced about branding, more about ability. If necessary put yourself forward for less popular projects where you can have an impact and build a reputation.
The short answer is yes.
But I would recommend finding someone who specifically has context to experience around Consulting so they can help you articulate your brand more meaningfully. Be prepared to do some serious self reflection.
I would also recommend connecting with a recruiter who specializes in your area. They can tell you what stands out, what to highlight, etc. and give you the tools to reflect your brand in a way that will resonate in the market.
I don’t know your level, but I will highlight that this is something offered at senior levels (SM) for people who have been identified as “on the partner path” and can be really beneficial, even if you want to stay with the firm long term.
^True. Self reflection + criticism + doubt.
If there are any leaders you are close with at the firm whose career/trajectory you admire, I’d recommend grabbing lunch with them to pick their brain. I worked with an SM that I worked closely with for several years when I was going up for M who helped me think through my brand and story, and it was super helpful. For some people that might be your coach, but tbh my coach and I have never had that kind of relationship

Depends. Are you:
- happy in your field/industry
- early/mid/late career
- want to manage people/programs/processes
- want to develop personally/professionally
I’d start with a mentor.
When the student is ready, the master will appear. Of course we all want a mentor who we work with. Sometimes, however, we find them through our personal and professional networks. The trick is to make yourself available and visible.
What exactly do you all mean by "brand"? You're area/industry of expertise? How do you manifest/promote your brand?

“Internal” as in support services? Or are you in consulting at D? For the latter, there are firm resources to help with your “brand” that are relevant to your role and career path. They talk about it at the milestone training for each level. Look on irpm. You can also ask your coach, but first step do some research on your own.
