It depends on the person. A new hire would probably want regular 1 on 1 time until they find their feet. A seasoned assistant would be able to have a list of tasks each day/week and complete them without issue...unless there was a problem.
I agree with having regular check-in at the beginning. It's really helpful to get things going
My manger and I speak frequently so I have eliminated our weekly 1:1s. This works for us as we have an excellent partnership and I am afforded the autonomy to do my job. I do schedule quarterly performance check-in and meetings as needed that are focused on strategic planning for department matters.
Lovely
I am an As needed person. I speak to my people almost daily. For the very few I don’t I make sure I check in every few weeks just to touch base.
Thank-you for sharing. Has it always been this way? Or were you once in-person?
Depending on the manager, I prefer as needed check-ins with my operations manager. Meanwhile, I like to keep scheduled one on ones with my account manager because a lot happens in my field of work every week. Although, I do believe this all depends on your type of manager and field of work.
I had a manager that would teams call all the time and sit on the call sometimes saying nothing. Interrupt me working to ask how to do things, then want a 1:1 weekly. That was in addition to a weekly team check in proceeded by a weekly department check in. It was too much. Being ADHD I preferred the individual beginning of the month 1:1 and provide updates as needed.
