What are your thoughts on pay discrepancies based on family structure? Ex. Two people do the same job but one is paid more or given a larger bonus “because they have kids and you live alone” or “because their family is struggling”. Is that an ethical factor if both employees do the same job at the same pace, quality, etc?

Just read the sad news of the death of 1st AD John Nolan. (See wheresspot for thread) While I hope be didn't contract Covid on either of the 2 sets mentioned prior to his illness and death, if it comes back that he did, we need to have a long hard chat about what went wrong.
