$50k … maybe?
SA1 - the responsibilities of fractional controllers and anyone in an advisory role are definitely different. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen controllers/advisors performing daily bookkeeping, a/p, a/r, etc duties. That would be such a waste of money.
Author - I’d probably look for roles where you aren’t responsible for input and seek out a position where you’re reviewing and providing support for staff development if you want to stay away from audit and tax but make more money than the average $50k for bookkeeping duties.
Yes, resume college and go for your CPA
It looks like that might be necessary. Thank you. I am curious what do you think about people who are starting their own "bookkeeping" businesses without having any accounting degree at all - and charging $75-$100 an hour for bookkeeping? I see ads for this a lot, people selling their services to teach you how to start your own bookkeeping business. It is difficult working on clients books that someone else has messed up, I wonder why this is being promoted.
You could pursue senior accountant roles within advisory service lines. Compensation and job scope for senior-level positions vary significantly by firm and practice area. I work at a large public accounting firm with an advisory branch, where the salary range for senior accountants is $75k–$120k. Most newer seniors fall in the $95k–$105k range. The lower end of the range typically applies to other service lines.
I strongly disagree with a few of the comments suggesting payment below $70k. Unless you are working part-time, I would not accept an offer below $90k with your experience. (CPA or not)
Do you know what the salary range is where you work for the staff accountants? What is their job description/experience level?
So are you an audit associate in public accounting? I’m confused by all this information
No problem, if you’re looking for competitive salaries in your area, just look for accounting advisory positions that are posted at the higher senior/low manager level based on your current experience. A ton of firms have different names for it but if you’re not making at least $80k in Austin/Houston/Dallas then you’re underpaid a ton for that role at your experience
