100% prosecute. This is a crime, and just because it went viral doesn’t make it any less of a crime. And because of the organized nature of this, you don’t want to just “let it go” so it can happen again.
I’m not saying-send everyone to jail and give them the harshest penalty, but this is fraud.
This gets more into police stuff, but I think you look at a sliding scale of probation and fines depending on amount taken and how much the person can actually pay back.
I think the court of public opinion would be in Chase’s side to move forward with prosecution.
This wasn’t a glitch - it’s called “check kiting” and it’s been around for over half a century.
Chase will have to report this to the police, it’s straightforward wire fraud. Since they have to account information of all the muppets involved, it should be pretty open-and-shut.
