Hmmm... It does seem like experience should count for more, especially when someone has the skills needed to do the job well. There have been times when the degree requirement didn’t align with the actual skills required, which feels a bit limiting. What do you think the impact would be if this changed?
That's a very good idea, as a lot of jobs don't really need a degree. What should matter, of course, is whether someone can do the work. If the job is not even in a field where academic credentials would actually mean something, that shouldn't be a consideration.
