What jobs are currently paying 85k?
Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

I wouldn’t provide that info about it being a pay cut. They don’t care.
If they’re open to negotiating - provide them your salary expectations and back up with information and experience. Maybe state a little higher than 70k and maybe they’ll meet somewhere in the middle. But also do research w your potential role and what’s the average $ in your state.
This, no company cares if it’s a pay cut. Just tell them what you want and why then wait.
Don’t bring up the pay again until you get an offer, and negotiate it then.
I wouldn't bring this up either. Maybe that'd be different if you were still employed and earning $70k, but as is, I'd leave it alone and simply ask for something in the $75k-$80k range with the hopes their counter is still $70k or above.
No, that pay range convo was supposed to happen in the first round with HR.
You could try to make a case when you get the offer that after going through the entire process and learning more about the role, the value you add to this team would be valued in the 75k range. They may not bite, but worth a shot.
What pay cut? You applied to a job that showed clearly what the salary would be.
I wouldn't because that will flag you as someone who is accepting less than they really want, which means you'll continue to look elsewhere while working for them.
