So, does anyone want to share what their attorneys got them for Xmas? I’ll go first: Partner 1 gave me $500 and a really nice note, Partner 2 gave me $300, mid level associate gave me $50 Visa card, another mid level gave a candle (she either doesn’t know my name, gave me someone named Linda’s gift) lol. My big partner still hasn’t given me anything but he’s always been very good to me and is usually late. Last year he gave me $750. The firm bonus was last month and was4%. Happy New Year to all!

You know I've seen this post time and again and never responded (and was frankly, stunned that no one else did! Here's my answer...senior partner bills at $1100 an hour in a BL firm, is a millionaire several times over...always $500. (based on the amount of grief and stress he should add another 0 to that. Counsel gives me $100 (I drop your jcrew boxes and your constant shoes in the mail for you...seriously...you make $400K a year...) my other counsel who is part time..$50... sometimes. I've always tried not to resent what others make...if you wanted to, you could have gone to law school but you didn't. Still. If you ask for nothing extra all year AND you aren't a yeller or super needy then I'm not doing much for you. But I work hard for these people. I remember the 90's fondly. Wined, dined and compensated accordingly. Oy.

Thanks for responding!

Holiday gifts are the time for assistants and secretaries to shine in the gratitude from their assigned attorneys. Sadly, people are not as generous as in the past. I'm assigned to 3 partners - one is very generous ($1,000), one is appreciative ($500) and the third ... a deadbeat. For two years, I have given this partner the same dedication as the other two and still have not gotten anything at year end. How do you not get "something" when you provide work to their practice? As a further insult, my firm gives a "gift" (a few hundred dollars) not a bonus.

3 partners $750 each, another partner $200, and associate perfume set.

like

Partner 1: $200 gift card, partner 2: $500 cash, associate 1: $400 cash, associate 2: 0, associate 3: 0, paralegal: $100.

I’ve never received anything nor has any of my colleagues

Additional Posts in Legal Administrative Assistants

Ratios of Admins to Attys at your big law? My firm has first through fourth year associates using a pool system and assigns 5th years and up to an admin. Each admin has 7-9 attys. Word on the street is ratios may increase. Trying to get centralized billing so admins do less. Meanwhile they can’t seem to keep our billing folks from leaving. It’s been a crazy year and lots of disappointing moves.

Benefits Question: how is the health insurance where you are? How does your employer handle it?

This has become one of the most important things when interviewing for me. My last employer went from having no insurance option to giving us one terrible plan that they contributed 50% towards. My current employer works with Gravie so we get so much per month and can use it towards any plan on the marketplace. Only thing that sucks is the contributions are post-tax so it counts as income.

Are there any firms with remote or hybrid LAA positions? Even if it’s short term, that’s ok.
Currently I am a LAA in a personal injury law firm for a year now, and I want to get more experience in others law fields. Thanks!
