In a lot of circumstances it's impossible to know what a job will be like until you're in it. During interviews you can try to find out, of course, by asking questions about projects and collaboration and teamwork and so on. You have to try to ferret things out as a lot of job listings are a grab bag of qualifications and it's unclear what the reality of the day to day might be.
You honestly can't ever know for sure. With that said, you can probably get a decent idea just by asking about the number of teams the company has working for it and the size of each one. If you're supposed to be doing strategy only but there are only three people working in the entire marketing department, it's safe to say you'll be handling a good bit of execution as well.
I'm always wary of the 'no two days are the same' line...
But with that scenario, doing the production part first can help build trust and then feed your strategic ideas back where applicable. Agree with other comments. Hard to know until you're embedded.
